Montcontour

This seemingly unpreposing little village of some 900 people has been the site of many sieges in its history due to its important strategic position and until the late 17th century was heavily fortified. The destruction of the fortifications was not completed and some of the ramparts, towers, walls and original gates still remain. The Church of St Mathew which was built in the 16th century has some of the original stained glass windows still in place. Nearby you will find the Chapelle de Notre Dame de Haut and La Chateau Touch-Trebry both of which offer interesting architectural features.
