Area
Close to St Tréphine is the Nantes-Brest canal, instigated by
Napoleon to provide quick & safe transport for troops &
supplies. It now provides a wealth of recreational pursuits,
photography, painting, walking, cycling, canoeing etc. As the canal
widens out towards Mur-de-Bretagne, it forms the lake of
Guerlédan where canoeing gives way to pleasure boats of
various types. You can cruise the lake, which in places resembles a
Norwegian fjord, waterski, or just relax in one of the bars &
cafes around the lake.
Ancient monoliths, castles, churches & Roman remains stand side
by side with modern architecture & modern technology in Brittany.
The very old town of Quintin, only 15 minutes drive from Ste
Tréphine, gives a glimpse of life in ancient France. It is
renowned as being the place where Christianity was introduced to this
part of France. A little further away towards Roscoff is the earth
satellite station & museum of telecommunications, run by France
Telecom. Here you can interactively participate in demonstrations of
the very latest telecommunication equipment. |
